The city of Scottsdale is being recognized with AAA ratings by the S&P Global Ratings and Moody’s Investors Service for both general obligation and municipal property corporation bond programs unfolding today at City Hall.

Both iconic financial rating institutions have awarded the city of Scottsdale their highest ratings, According to City Treasurer Sonia Andrews.

“I am pleased to inform you that both S&P and Moody’s have assigned AAA ratings, their highest rating, for our GO and MPC bonds,” she said in a notification to City Council in mid-April 2025.

For the city of Scottsdale, this means both S&P and Moody’s have assessed the municipality’s financial health and determined it has a very low risk of defaulting on its bond obligations, city and financial sector officials say.

“These ratings are crucial as they directly impact the cost of borrowing for the city of Scottsdale,” said Mayor Lisa Borowsky of the recent financial accolade. “A higher rating translates to lower interest rates, saving taxpayers money in the long run.”

GO bonds are typically used to finance public projects that benefit the entire community, such as infrastructure improvements, parks, and public safety facilities.

“These top-tier ratings are a testament to Scottsdale’s sound fiscal management and economic stability, providing confidence to investors and taxpayers alike,” Mayor Borowsky pointed out. “We are in an excellent financial position as a community.”

MPC bonds in Scottsdale are used to finance specific projects, such as public buildings or facilities, through a separate corporation created by the city.

“These are not empty accolades, but rather crucial indicators of the city of Scottsdale’s ability to provide essential services, invest in infrastructure, and ensure long-term economic stability for its residents,” Mayor Borowsky said. “The future is bright in Scottsdale and under my watch it will stay that way.”
