Mayor Borowsky delivers win for Scottsdale Arts atop local dais

Scottsdale City Council is moving forward with an annual contract with Scottsdale Arts to fund, support and celebrate the local, municipal arts and cultural effort.
Scottsdale Arts, which has grown into one of the largest municipal operations supporting performing and cultural arts, received its annual contract renewal at a recent City Council meeting.
The municipal contract to support Scottsdale Arts is supported by Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky.
“The arts and tourism market are key ingredients of what makes our community so special,” Mayor Borowsky said. “Giving our nonprofit partner the appropriate time and adequate funding is paramount as we look to further capitalize on our Scottsdale brand as an artistic destination of the southwest.”
Mayor Borowsky turned a 6-month contract — a departure from established renewal practices at the city of Scottsdale for its arts partner — into an annual renewal, which allows the 501(c)(3) nonprofit entity to ensure the envisioned programming is delivered to both residents and visitors alike.
Mayor Borowsky championed an alternate motion to adopt Resolution No. 13428 and extend the agreement end date to June 30, 2026 and to adopt a full budget year funding amount.

The measure was approved unanimously by Mayor Borowsky’s colleagues — the Scottsdale City Council.
“On behalf of Scottsdale Arts and the cultural communities of Scottsdale, I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for your leadership and support in this week’s council meeting,” said Scottsdale Arts President and CEO Dr. Gerd Wuestemann following the unanimous City Council vote.
“We have grown to be Arizona’s largest arts organization with its broadest community impact, even though we are made up of multiple smaller parts. We are poised to continue to grow, with the new Cattletrack campus addition and hopefully a future small theater we are ready to build with our own funding in place.”
