Staff Writer | Mayor of Scottsdale
The Scottsdale Police Department reports numbers are showing an overall decrease in criminal activity in downtown Scottsdale during the first quarter of calendar year 2025.
Specifically, law enforcement officials report a decrease in Group A Offenses — crimes like burglary, drug possession, theft and robbery — during the first quarter of 2025.
Mayor Lisa Borowsky says she attributes the positive trend to a multi-faceted approach involving enhanced public safety initiatives, community engagement, and strategic partnerships.
“I am incredibly proud to report that downtown Scottsdale is experiencing an overall decrease in criminal activity,” Mayor Borowsky said. “This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our Scottsdale Police Department, the active participation of our residents and businesses, and the effectiveness of the proactive measures we’ve implemented.”
During the first quarter of 2023 police officials reported 842 Group A Offenses meanwhile in 2025 during the same period, police officials report 663 total Group A Offenses, which translates to 21.26% drop in crime activity.

Scottsdale Police Chief Joe LeDuc says his department is taking a 21st century approach to fighting crime in the downtown sector of Scottsdale.
“Our department continues to take a proactive, data-driven approach to reducing crime in downtown Scottsdale and the community as a whole,” he said. “We increase officer presence during peak hours and continually seek to strengthen partnerships with local businesses. Our community engagement efforts, special projects teams, bike units, and our Real Time Crime Center all play a vital role in ensuring a safer, more responsive environment for everyone who lives, works, and visits downtown.”
Chief LeDuc says he and police officers of Scottsdale are steadfast in their dedication to keeping the people of Scottsdale safe.
“We will always remain committed to our mission: As part of our community, we are united in purpose and selfless in action to ensure a safe Scottsdale,” he said.
Mayor Borowsky says a safe and enjoyable downtown area for all to enjoy is a key element that makes Scottsdale special.
“This is not just about numbers; it’s about the quality of life for our residents and the experience of our visitors,” Mayor Borowsky said. “A safer Scottsdale hospitality sector benefits everyone, from patrons enjoying an evening out to entrepreneurs investing in our local economy.”
