Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky is announcing that Zoox, the Amazon‑owned autonomous ride‑hailing company, is establishing a new Zoox Fusion Center in Scottsdale as part of its national expansion into Phoenix and Dallas.
According to Zoox officials, the facility will serve as a regional hub for the company’s rapidly growing robotaxi testing network.
The new Fusion Center will function as a centralized command hub for teleguidance, mission control, and rider support, providing real‑time assistance to Zoox’s autonomous fleet operating across Arizona.
The Scottsdale site will join the company’s existing centers in the San Francisco Bay Area and Las Vegas, according to a press release.
“Scottsdale is proud to welcome Zoox to our community,” Mayor Borowsky said. “Their decision to establish a Fusion Center here underscores Scottsdale’s leadership in innovation, technology, and high‑quality economic growth. This investment strengthens our city’s role in the future of autonomous mobility and brings new opportunities for our residents and workforce.”
Zoox’s expansion into Arizona will begin with retrofitted Toyota Highlander SUVs equipped with safety drivers, which will manually map the region before progressing to supervised autonomous testing.
These vehicles will operate in Phoenix neighborhoods as the company prepares for later deployment of its purpose‑built robotaxi, an autonomous vehicle designed without a steering wheel or pedals.
The company’s decision to locate in Scottsdale reflects the region’s unique testing environment. Phoenix and the surrounding areas offer extreme heat, dust, and high‑speed road conditions, providing valuable data for validating battery performance, sensors, and artificial intelligence systems.
Mayor Borowsky points out the facility also represents a meaningful addition to the region’s innovation economy as the Scottsdale Fusion Center is expected to support local workforce growth as Zoox scales its U.S. operations.
“Zoox’s arrival reinforces Scottsdale’s position as a destination for companies shaping the next generation of transportation,” Mayor Borowsky said. “We look forward to supporting their success as they bring high‑tech jobs and cutting‑edge mobility solutions to our region.”
