A fundamental piece of Mayor Lisa Borowsky’s campaign to be elected to the top political position of ‘The West’s Most Western Town’ was to reinvigorate Old Town Scottsdale with quality development and a 21st century approach to a regional arts mecca. (File Photos/Scottsdalemayor.com)

Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky is inviting residents to participate with city planning staff as they host a public design meeting on the proposed parking structure along Brown Avenue in Old Town at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 22 at the Civic Center Library Auditorium, 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd.

“While I remain steadfast in my opposition to the location and initial design concept of the Brown parking garage — a project that will displace our beloved Farmer’s Market — I am encouraging our residents to bring their best design ideas as we begin this process,” Mayor Borowsky said.

“In spite of my opposition, I am focused on bringing the best product forward for Old Town, our business owners, residents and visitors alike. I encourage those interested in the process to do the same.”

City officials report the project — a product of Bond 2019 general obligation bond proceeds — will expand the city-owned parking structure at First Street and Brown Avenue by adding two levels of parking.

In July 2024 Scottsdale City Council directed staff to proceed with the addition of two levels to this existing parking structure.

On Feb. 11, the City Council approved a contract for design and construction. Design work will take place for the rest of 2025 and a second public meeting will be held later this year to review design concepts.

Status of the Old Town Farmers Market?

The Old Town Farmers Market is held at the proposed site of the parking structure destined to ascend two stories at this location – and will be allowed to continue at the same location through June 2026, but construction will begin later next summer.

City officials say they are working with the Old Town Farmer’s Market ownership group to identify a new location in Old Town where it can continue to operate after this project begins.

But no solution has been struck as of May 2025.
