Old Town Scottsdale is more than a destination — it’s the heart of our city’s identity. Its historic charm, vibrant arts scene, and unique local businesses have made it a premier attraction for visitors from around the world.

But as Scottsdale grows and evolves, we face new challenges that require thoughtful collaboration to ensure downtown remains a thriving hub for commerce, culture, and community.

Mayor Lisa Borowsky

That’s why I am calling a Downtown Scottsdale Summit at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, at Scottsdale City Hall. This meeting will bring together city leaders, merchants, property owners, and tourism experts to discuss strategies for preserving what makes Old Town special while addressing modern realities like parking, marketing, and infrastructure.

Our agenda includes insights from respected voices:

  • Joan Fudala, Scottsdale historian and author, will share the story of Old Town’s evolution.
  • Michael V. Lee, founder of MLD Worldwide, will explore creative approaches to tourism and entertainment design.
  • Chris Mielke, owner of Sonipark LLC, will present innovative parking solutions.

Following these presentations, City Council will consider forming a Downtown Scottsdale Task Force — a group of 15 stakeholders representing merchants, property owners, hoteliers, and tourism professionals from key districts such as Historic Old Town, Fifth Avenue, the Entertainment District, and the Arts District. This task force will help refine the Downtown Character Area Plan and strengthen marketing efforts that keep Scottsdale competitive.

This summit is about partnership.

It’s about ensuring that the businesses and cultural assets that define our city continue to flourish. If you care about the future of downtown Scottsdale, I invite you to attend and share your ideas. And if you want to play an active role, consider joining the task force. Your expertise and perspective are invaluable.

Together, we can keep Old Town Scottsdale vibrant—not just for today, but for generations to come.
