Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky joined fellow Arizona elected leaders Monday, Aug. 31, for a meeting with Taiwan Minister of Economic Affairs Ming-Hsin Kung as part of an Arizona Commerce Authority delegation traveling in partnership with the Greater Phoenix Economic Council.
Mayor Borowsky, a member of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council Board of Directors, participated in the meeting alongside Scottsdale Senior Director of Economic Development Kevin Burke, Pima County Vice Chairman Matt Heinz, Buckeye Mayor Eric Orsborn and Mesa Mayor Mark Freeman.
The meeting provided an opportunity for direct dialogue with Minister Kung on the Arizona-Taiwan economic relationship, including investment, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors and continued economic collaboration between Taiwan and Arizona communities.
“Arizona and Taiwan share a strong and growing economic partnership that is creating opportunities for innovation, investment and job creation,” Mayor Borowsky said following the trade meeting. “I appreciated the opportunity to meet directly with Minister Kung and discuss how communities like Scottsdale can continue supporting the industries and partnerships that are driving economic growth in both regions.”
Taiwan has become one of Arizona’s most significant international economic partners, with collaboration spanning advanced technology, semiconductor manufacturing, supply chain development and workforce initiatives.
“As Arizona continues to attract global investment in advanced manufacturing and semiconductor production, international relationships like those with Taiwan are more important than ever,” Mayor Borowsky said. “These conversations strengthen the connections that help position Scottsdale and the broader region for long-term economic success.”
The Arizona delegation is meeting with business, government and industry leaders throughout Taiwan while attending the 2026 SEMICON Taiwan conference to strengthen trade relationships, promote investment opportunities and advance economic development partnerships between Scottsdale and Taiwan.
