Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky, demonstrating her commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors, has successfully built consensus with the City Council to advance two crucial traffic-related initiatives.

Scottsdale City Council Wednesday, July 2 — in unanimous fashion — agreed to direct City Manager Greg Caton to agendize a staff presentation and discussion on improving traffic flow and safety at an upcoming City Council regular meeting.
Scottsdale City Council resumes legislative actions Monday, Aug. 25.
Mayor Borowsky’s leadership has paved the way for a focused examination of two key areas:
- Lagging Left-Turn Signal Intersections: The City Council will hear a presentation and engage in discussion regarding the optimization of left-turn signal timings at intersections throughout Scottsdale. The goal is to determine the most efficient traffic signaling system to alleviate congestion and improve overall traffic flow within the municipality.
- Extension of Yellow-to-Red Light Signal Phases: A second presentation and discussion will focus on the merits of extending the time between yellow and red-light signal phases at city intersections. This initiative aims to significantly enhance both pedestrian and motorist safety by providing additional time for vehicles to clear intersections and for pedestrians to cross safely.
“I am incredibly pleased that the City Council has come together to prioritize these important traffic initiatives,” Mayor Borowsky said. “Our community deserves the safest and most efficient roadways possible. By carefully analyzing our current signal systems and exploring adjustments to yellow light durations, we can make a tangible difference in the daily lives of our residents, improving commutes and ensuring greater safety for everyone using our streets.”
These upcoming presentations will provide an opportunity for comprehensive analysis by city staff, followed by robust discussion and potential direction from the City Council. Mayor Borowsky’s proactive approach underscores her dedication to addressing the evolving needs of Scottsdale and maintaining its reputation as a well-managed and forward-thinking city.
