Mayor Borowsky calls for enhanced wildfire mitigation within city limits
Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky is spearheading initiatives to bolster wildfire mitigation
strategies through the application of fire-retardant products, currently in use by the United States Forest Service, which will better protect local neighborhoods and the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.
Demonstrating a steadfast commitment to community safety and protection, Mayor Borowsky is working to cultivate consensus within the ranks of Scottsdale City Council to implement advanced preventative measures against the escalating risk of wildfires.

To this end, she adds “who amongst us will say ‘no’ to investing in all possible resources to better protect our community from wildfire danger?”
Pursuant to Mayor Borowsky’s request, Scottsdale Fire Chief Tom Shannon has been formally directed — through a unanimous approval of her City Council colleagues — to provide a comprehensive presentation, a thorough discussion, and potential directive concerning the judicious application of fire-retardant products employed by the United States Forest Service.
Scottsdale City Council resumes regular meetings Monday, Aug. 25.
Complementing the exploration of sophisticated fire-retardant solutions, an upcoming City Council meeting will also feature a presentation from Fire Chief Tom Shannon regarding potential enhancements to volunteer efforts already existing in the Scottsdale Fire Department.
“A proactive approach for the safety and security of Scottsdale residents remains my highest priority,” affirmed Mayor Lisa Borowsky. “Wildfires present a substantial threat, and it is incumbent upon us to seriously examine every available measure to protect our community. By evaluating these cutting-edge technologies and the expansion of our volunteer fire efforts, we are holding true to our No. 1 priority to protect Scottsdale residents as elected leaders.”
Mayor Borowsky’s proactive leadership underscores her unwavering dedication to employing proven methodologies and fostering civic engagement to preserve Scottsdale’s inherent beauty and protect its inhabitants.
